Cup

Cup

Here is a short story I wrote for the DMWorldCulture project.

Cup

It’s weird to imagine that a simple cup can make you think so much about the past. Facts are easy to find out – 750-600 BC, Cyprus, pottery. But what about the history we can’t see?
The conversations that would have taken place while holding the cup. The tightening of a grip when a family member goes to war. Or the tears it has caught when held in comfort while mourning the death of a loved one.
The celebrations it must have been used for!
The arguments it’s witnessed, a threat to be thrown against a wall in anger. Only for it to be saved last minute by loving hands and an apology.
To be passed around family, friends and even strangers.
It may look like a simple cup, but it holds so much more than just a drink.

  1. That is brilliant, as I read it I could imagine the stories the cup had witnessed. As I started reading I wanted to keep reading .
