The 2 LADS podcast

The 2 LADS podcast

Though the name The 2 LADS podcast may seem like it is only for guys, it definitely is not. When I first started listening to the podcast, I wasn’t really sure if I would get anything out of it. I found the idea of two guys talking about their mental health and other topics interesting because I’d never really come across that kind of content before, especially not from two British guys. But as I was listening more and more each week when a new episode was released, I soon found myself carefully listening to what they had to say and learning from them.

The 2 LADS podcast is from actor Daniel Sharman and his friend, musical producer Christian ‘Leggy’ Langdon talking about certain topics from a male perspective. Or from their own words, “The 2 LADS podcast tackles big topics with brutal honesty and vulnerability; replacing shame and guilt with truth and love in the quest for emotional and spiritual growth. These convos are unflinching, uncomfortable, funny… and ongoing.” (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-2-lads-podcast/id1575736783)

My initial reason for listening to the podcast was because I wanted to see if I could understand more how the guys around me think. Of course, not every man thinks the same way, but I wanted to try and understand subjects more from a male perspective and also to see how I could reach out to my friends better.

However, I soon found out when listening, that I had similar thoughts or ideas to what they were saying. As well as recognising in my own life how some of their advice could benefit me.

Daniel and Leggy aren’t scared to go deep or personal on their podcast. Though some could feel uncomfortable at times because of this, I find it adds to the conversation. It makes it seem as if the two of them, with the audience, are just a group of friends sitting around talking about life and issues, giving different ideas and advice to one another. I liked how they check in with each, using a scale of 1-10, to make sure the other is feeling ok and talking about why they’re not at a ten. It’s an easy way to look out for a friend and can make a lot of difference to that person as they’re able to talk about their problems.

There are a few of their episodes I like because of the topics they talk about, but my favourite was when they went to see Dr Daniel Amen, a psychiatrist who is the director of Amen clinics. There, Dr Amen scanned Daniel and Leggy’s brains to see their overall brain health and what can be done to help them with their depression and anxiety issues.

It’s no secret I’ve had my own problems with depression and anxiety, so I found it fascinating when Dr Amen was talking them through the problems the brain scans had brought up and how they were able to improve themselves.

After watching that episode on Daniel Sharman’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqn8JypoN78&t=621s) I looked into Dr Amen more and brought a copy of his book “The End of Mental Illness: How Neuroscience Is Transforming Psychiatry and Helping Prevent Or Reverse Mood and Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Addictions, PTSD, Psychosis, Personality Disorders, and More”

I have really enjoyed reading and thinking about what Dr Amen talks about in this book. It’s made me rethink how I acknowledge and deal with my own depression and I wouldn’t even know it exists without listening to The 2 LADS podcast.

New episodes come out every Tuesday. I find the episodes aren’t long and easy to listen to while doing odd jobs or when I’m out walking. I enjoy listening to the banter Daniel and Leggy have between them. It’s easy to see how close they are, something which I think adds to the conversation and makes for a more comfortable atmosphere while talking about some serious topics, such as Love, Addiction and Shame.

This podcast is for anyone to listen to, but I would really recommend it to people who like to discuss topics in an in-depth way and with an open mind. I’ve found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would, and I hope other people will now go listen and enjoy it too.
